WHO WE ARE

Christie Taylor

This company was formed much like my projects - it was a restoration of dreams after years of deferment. I wanted to start a renovation business that served clients like me - a busy, working, single mom. I understand that things can be tight, but with creativity we can still get it done!

I grew up around contractors and bought my first fixer-upper at 19. I'm now on my fourth personal home renovation. I can work with any budget, and am creative enough to reinvent any space.

Michael Christman

After thirty years of planes, rental cars and meetings throughout the country, it was time for Michael to get back to his creative side. He had always loved wood and creating, but had limited time during his professional career to dive into design any more than as a hobby.

In 2019, Michael established Closer to the Heart Woodworking. He focuses, where possible, on fully sustainable locally cut, salvaged and milled wood. Each tree and piece of wood gets a second chance to write a new story and bring pleasure to the craftsman and the household where it finds a new home. Every new slab of wood brings new opportunities to learn and develop skills and delight his customers.

DESIGN

We don't have to start from scratch. Those dinged-up cabinets can get a face lift with degreaser, sanding, and fresh paint. While your furniture might be outdated, that solid wood dresser has good bones and a second life if we reface the drawers. We can make your space uniquely you, functional, and beautiful all within an attainable budget.

DO

No project too big or too small. We can tackle a complete home renovation one room at a time, or remodel a room one wall at a time, to make it digestible to your budget. We are a collaborative project partner to DIYers and other contractors. Our goal is to help you realize the dreams for your space, and complete a project that we are proud of.
